Languages in Nepal
Nepal is one of the most diverse country with language and ethnic varieties. According to 2011 census of Nepal, there are 123 spoken languages. Nepali language is a language of Indo-Aryan family. It is a national langua of Nepal and spoken in South Asia as lingua franca including the countries like India, Bhutan, Burma. Due to the geographical influences, Nepali is influenced by Tibeto-Burman languages as well.
As Nepali is the national language of the country, it is widely spoken and understood. The local inhabitant of Kathmandu Valley speak Nepal Bhasa. Everest region’s Sherpa speak Sherpa language whereas people in Annapurna / Manasalu region speaks Gurung language ( Ghandruk and Annapurna Base Camp region, part of Annapurna circuit section and part of Gorkha / Manasalu region). Magar language is spoken in Ghorepani area and Thakali in Mustang region. Tamang language is the fifth largest language family in Nepal who lives in the rim of Kathmandu valley, Langtang and Dhading.
